Here’s another sneak peek into my world. I love a big cup of coffee/tea every morning & night. Daily. It’s part of my morning ritual and I usually sit with a book, magazine or catch up on news online.
If you have, ever had, or will have any interest in fashion, you have to get this book. It is the history of Couture up until today. Without giving too much away, enjoy the pictures and quotes from our favorite designers below.

“If ever a term has been misappropriated, “haute couture” is. The phrase is tossed around casually on the high street, and news papers are only too happy to apply the term where it is quite hilarious, not applicable – at worst, even to a new supermarket clothing range.” – Deborah Bee
“The most important aspect of fashion design is not technique, but ideas. Ideas are magical. And it’s the flow of ideas that goes into the process that makes a difference.” – Miuccia Prada
The history of couture is very well narrated. Dating back to the mid-19th century and giving credit to Charles Worth, The first king of Couture. Vintage pictures of the greats such as Madame Jeanne Lanvin, Madeleine, Paul Poiret, Jacques Fath, Jean Patou, Coco Chanel, Cristobal Balenciaga, Christian Dior, Christian Lacroix, and Hubert Givenchy (to mention a few ) in their younger years.
“Couture is about fantasy. It’s a celebration of a craft. It’s an art form. It’s about color and dreams. It’s not really fashion. It’s grandeur and splendour”
“Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity” – Coco Chanel
“I’ve always wanted to create something that would not disappear with me, but would outlive me for 50 or maybe 100 years” – Hubert de Givenchy
There was a really charming picture of Yves Saint Laurent photographed at the age of 21 in the same year that he took over the house of Dior. I left the pic out because again, I didn’t want to give too much away *smile*

“When a woman falls in love with something so much that she wants to wear it – it is at that point and that point only that it becomes fashion”
“When my mother and her friends had coffee, I’d hide under the table, smell the fragrances and see the quality of their stockings and shoes” – Christian Lacroix
“I prepared that collection in a complete state of elation. I knew I was going to be famous“. Yves Saint Laurent on his first collection for Dior.
