Style Interview: Zoë of Haiku Ambulance

I think I’m going to skip going on and on about my admiration for Zoë of Haiku Ambulance‘s personal style. You are about to witness it below. What I really want to stress is her sense of humor.

She does not take herself too seriously and I love that. I can honestly say that whenever I visit her blog or communicate with her, she has me dying of laughter. Literally holding my stomach from laughing so hard.

Yes, please, bookmark her site. She is a comic, but doesn’t know it yet. Enjoy.. xo

Name: Zoë Madison Cullie

Occupation: Occupied, unfortunately. Hoping to live the American Dream and quit workin’ for the man one of these days.

Single or Married: In love with my fella of five years.

Where are you from: Boulder, CO. Aka Hippietown, USA or, The Republic of Boulder.

What do you love most about your city: I love that Denver is a true “city”, but also has so many small-town qualities that other large areas lack. And the Mountains.

What inspires your style and how would you describe it: My major inspiration comes from two places: thrift stores and blogs. In that order. I would describe my style as secondhand menswear inspired ladieswear with bits of modernity. Very, very vague, I know.

Vintage or latest trend: Vintage! You can have “latest trend” vintage, too. But never the other way around.

Any Style Icons (dead or alive): Bob Dylan. And all the Dandies in London.

How does it feel to be awarded/recognized in the Denver fashion scene: I was honestly shocked. Denver is full of amazing style everywhere you look and to somehow stand out amongst them is an honor beyond my wildest dreams. I think we are slowly but surely putting our name on the American fashion map.

How do people respond to your style: Sometimes very strangely, but mostly positively. Old ladies love me more than anything.

Favorite fashion quote: I cannot remember it (or who said it) for the life of me, but it is something relating to the fact that to be fashionable you have to be weird. I want to say it was either Zooey Deschanel or Chloë Sevigny. Darn it.

What are you into this season: Well this season being Winter, I am very much into blazers of every flavor, chunky knits, and my ever-favorite: menswear. Still searching for the perfect oversized military jacket as well.

Favorite piece in your closet: Probably my black blazer from the little boy’s section of the thrift store. I try very hard not to wear it daily, but it is freaking perfect. With any/everything. Gosh, I love it so much.

Favorite designers: The Late McQueen, Stella McCartney, Rodarte, YSL.

Favorite stores or brands: Thrift stores. Always.

Random: What’s in your purse: Uh oh. What is in my purse? Let’s explore: a datebook, a notebook, my wallet, 2 hand lotions, a deck of cards, 1 tampon, EIGHT lipsticks, a rubber pool ball, 2 compacts, hair ties, bobby pins, a beverage, and sunglasses. Whew. Not bad.

What’s on your playlist: I am so bad with music. I really only listen to the oldies channel and NPR. But I can certainly cut a rug.

Fashion is: A silent way of telling everyone who you are.

Favorite color/s: Grey. Since, like forever.

Your dream job: Getting paid to eat and shop. However you can work that out, I’ll do it.

Pointy|Square|Round toe shoes: I think all that matters here is that square is not the answer.

When and why did you start blogging? I started blogging about five years ago, mainly to keep my Dad updated on my life, as I was living in Florida at the time. It began as my simple observations, little stories, and things I thought were funny. After I started seeing girls develop these amazing fashion blogs I knew that I had missed the mark and needed to start fresh. Now the blog is my simple observations, little stories, things I think are funny, AND fashion.

Who takes all of your pictures: My boyfriend of five years, Ryan (howdyryan.com). I owe him super big time for getting up early with me every single day and being patient. Especially when we’re freezing our balls off. He’s the best.

Tell us three random things about you (that we don’t know) Well, I can kind of play the harmonica, which is not very exciting, but definitely random. I used to play Magic the Gathering (leave me alone)… And I am terrified of grasshoppers. I sound like such a winner!

I love this girl's style! Her looks cut through in a crowd of often cookie-cutter fashions, and she looks fantastic being herself. Doesn't hurt that she comes off as smart, savvy and funny as hell. Doesn't hurt one bit.
