Style Interview: Zarna of Zarna’s Runway

Zarna is as cute as a button. She reminds me of a chic bollywood princess. Aside from the fact that she is drop dead gorgeous, has an amazing haircut and a great style, I admire how she fuses her ethnic background into her style. She embraces her ethnicity… you can tell by the traditional clothes and accessories she wears with a modern twist. Get to know her! Enjoy..

Name: Zarna Surti

Occupation: Musician/Publicist

Single or Married: Single

Where are you from: I grew up in Nashville, TN – I am a first generation Indian/American

What do you love most about your city: It’s so home-y.  I’ve lived in Boston, Miami, and New York, but there’s something about Nashville that’s very inviting and comforting to me.  I do hope to move to LA or New York in the near future, but Nashville will always be home!

What inspires your style and how would you describe it: I’m inspired by my culture – I love mixing in Indian accessories and prints.  I would describe my style as eclectic.  Sometimes I dress girly, other times rocker, and other times bohemian.  It all depends on my mood!

Vintage or latest trend: Vintage!

Any Style Icons (dead or alive): My grandmothers, bloggers (I love The Glamourai and Sea of Shoes), and of course – Anna Dello Russo!

How do people respond to your style: Sometimes my friends and family think my heels are a bit much, but I love them!!

Favorite fashion quote: “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” –Yves Saint Laurent

What are you into this season: This winter I’ve been really into bright colors! I know most people stick to neutrals in the winter, but wearing brighter colors makes me happier during these cold months!

Favorite piece in your closet: I have the perfect leather jacket and my shoe collection isn’t too shabby either.

Favorite designers: Oscar De La Renta, Brian Atwood, Christian Louboutin

Favorite stores or brands: Blank, Solestruck, AllSaints – oh, and who doesn’t love H&M??

Random: What’s in your purse: My iphone, wallet, MAC “Speak Louder” lipstick, chapstick, and Crabtree & Evelyn Citron hand lotion.

What’s on your playlist: Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of Lauryn Hill and Carmen McRae.

Fashion is: Expression.

Favorite color/s: Turquoise and Mustard.

Your dream job: Singer/Fashionista Extraordinaire!

Do you have a hobby: I’m a self-proclaimed foodie!

When and why did you start blogging: I started blogging in December 2008 because one of my friends showed me a few fashion blogs – I’ve been hooked ever since!

Who takes all of your pictures: Whoever is around me when I’m all dressed up! I’m very particular about the way I like my photos, so I can be a little bossy!

Tell us three random things about you (that we don’t know):

1) I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Vocal Performance.

2) I’ve been vegetarian (not vegan – I love cheese too much!) since I was 7!

3) I can’t touch my toes.  I exercise & stretch at least four times a week, but I just can’t seem to do it! Tips??

So I’m perusing her blog in the AM (The time bad things happen to my wallet, thanks to online shopping… :'( ) on Tuesday and I come across this here post: http://zarnasrunway.blogspot.com/2010/10/accessorize-me.html . I tell myself I NEED that blazer in my life, so I head to express’ website, but to my dismay the blazer is no longer there (duh). The results of my google search for “express studded blazer” reveal that the blazer was in express’ FALL 2009 collection… Bummer. 🙁 Anyway, I see a link to an ebay auction and GUESS WHAT?! I find it! In a size 0! auctioning for $8.99! And I won the bid! Ended up paying $15.99 total! And it came in the mail today!

    *Does the happy dance* 😀
