Yinka Shonibare is Amazing I love his work. He recreates historic European painting but dresses his subjects in "African print". These African prints which are also manufactured in Africa now, but were originally manufactured in Indonesia. They were introduce to Africa to Symbolize African Independence. What makes his sculptures very interesting is the way he plays with Culture, Identity, history and their juxtapositions.

Okay, some of this stuff is a little over the top, but some of it is amazing. I really enjoy the two dresses on the top and the men's pieces in the two bottom shots. I love the idea of juxtaposing Afrikan prints on colonial cuts...the jackets scream "redcoat" but the designs completely belie that suggestion.

Really, really great find.
