I Love The 80s

The 80’s is my favourite decade. Style, music, and attitude – it had the lot! So for our latest event I thought we’d capture the spirit of the 80’s and use it to showcase our latest RI Spring looks.

We all arrived at the showroom bright and early at 8am to start our 80’s transformation. The models were having their hair backcombed into oblivion and while the looks were being co-coordinated, cocktails were being prepared (by my favourite bartenders who were also at the Elle Style Awards) and the showroom was also being made-over.
Before I knew it, it was 11am – just half an hour until the first show. I whizzed into hair and make-up and threw on my outfit leaving just enough time for a pre-show pep talk before the show began. I wore an acid wash oversize blazer with a Blondie tee, piled-on neon necklaces and the most amazing fringed leggings (I’m such a wallflower, you know).

Pina coladas in hand, the press took their seats while the finishing touches were being made to the models backstage. It was time for me to take centre stage and, believe it or not, I actually got quite nervous! With press from Grazia, Vogue, Look Magazine, Cosmo and Elle in attendance (to name a few) the pressure was on. But, like a true “hostess with the mostess” I gathered myself and prepared to start the show.

The second Chaka Khan’s “I Feel For You” pumped out of the speakers, our gorgeous models were out on the catwalk chewing their bubblegum, twisting their hair and shaking their hips with true 80’s attitude. Key looks included our homage to Axl Rose; leather bomber, with acid wash look leggings, and fringed boots. Our “Rule Britannia” looks included: union jack oversized tee, ripped jeans and fingerless gloves. Our take on Miami Vice chic: the “Showadawaddy” jacket, paint splash tee and neon accessories.

We even showcased one of River Island’s latest new denim styles – these jeans have bleach details, paint splashes and bags of character. The name I hear you say? “The Arieta jean.” Yes, I now have a pair of jeans named after ME! I was beaming from ear to ear when I found out – GLOBAL DOMINATION beckons.

All the models had walked, so there was only one thing left to do. I’ll give you three guesses….. Yep, I took myself down the catwalk. Not with my usual swagger, however. This time I went for more of a shimmy. Well how else could I have shown off my FAB-U-LOUS fringed leggings?

So the show was over and now it was time to catch up with the press. Everybody loved the event, the clothes and the styling, which was great to hear as I styled the event and we all put so much effort into making the day a success.  Well, with all those neons flying around, it was a sure thing…

‘Till next time, stay fabulous…

I am so glad acid wash jeans are now considered fashionable, I was going to get a pair last year, but my girlfriend said, this is 2008 you cannot wear that. I remember Rihanna got a lot of lip when she wore a pair last year.
